Local Transportation:

The conference is almost here, and we wanted to provide you with some tips for getting around the Stanford University campus and the surrounding areas while at CIES. Your registration packet will include a campus map and Marguerite Shuttle schedule.

Airport transportation:
Information on traveling to and from the San Francisco and San Jose airports can be found at:
http://www.paloaltoonline.com/com_info/trans_questions.shtml

Stanford shuttle service:
Stanford's free shuttle, the Marguerite, is the best way to access campus from the nearby hotels and Palo Alto. The service runs several lines around campus with connections to Palo Alto every 15 minutes beginning at 6:15 am and ending between 7 and 8 pm. Please allow extra time for taking the shuttle to the conference in the mornings; we are expecting demand to be high with all the conference goers. On Saturday, when the regular Marguerite service is not available, a conference shuttle will leave the Palo Alto train station at 8:00 and 8:45, stop at California Avenue at 8:15 and 9:00 am, at the Stanford Terrace Hotel at about 8:20 and 9:05 am, and arrive at Hoover Tower at 8:25 and 9:10. Evening service is available weekdays every 30 minutes from 8:00 pm until 11:30 pm. Please visit their Website for more information about routes and schedules: http://transportation.stanford.edu/marguerite/MargueriteShuttle.shtml

Local taxi services:
Green Cab Co. Express Taxi Service: 888/571-9068.
Santa Clara Cab: 650/473-1900.
Yellow Checker Cab: 650/852-9999; 800/595-1222.

Special note for those staying at the SLAC Guesthouse:
Please be advised that transportation options to and from campus and other locations are a bit more limited from SLAC, which is located a mile or two west of campus. We recommend that those of you with cars coordinate with other conference goers staying at SLAC to carpool to campus, particularly if you are attending the gala on Friday evening. Car rental information is available below. Additionally, please allow 40 minutes for traveling to campus in the mornings due to traffic and construction around Sand Hill Road.

The SLAC Marguerite shuttle runs every 40 minutes from 7:50 am to 5:30 pm. We have ordered an extra express shuttle to Hoover Tower on campus at 7:30 and 8:15 am from Wednesday, March 23 through Saturday, March 26. A return shuttle will leave from Hoover Tower at 12:30 and 1:15 pm after the conference is over on Saturday. A special evening shuttle will leave the Palo Alto train station at 9:00 and 9:45 pm, stop at Hoover Tower on campus around 9:15 and 10:00 pm, and then go to the SLAC Guesthouse. This shuttle will run on the evenings of Tuesday, March 22, Wednesday, March 23, and Thursday, March 24.

Bike Rental:
For on-campus transportation, and particularly for those of you staying on or near campus, we recommend renting bikes (be sure and get a lock!). The weather should be mild and sunny, and both campus and Palo Alto are easily accessible by bike.
Bike rental information is available at Stanford Bike Shop (on campus)
If you are a Stanford alumnus, free bikes are available at the Alumni Center
Rentals in the surrounding area are here

Car Rental:
We have arranged a 25% discount with Avis for conference participants. To reserve a car, call the reservation line at (800) 331-1600 and use the Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number D087626. Or reserve online and have the discount number automatically included in your reservation and receive an email confirmation. To reserve online, go to AVIS Discount.

Parking Information:
We have reserved the Galvez Field parking lot from Monday, March 21 to Friday, March 25. The lot is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Galvez St. and Campus Dr. From this lot, it is about a 10-minute walk to the main conference sites. For campus maps and more information about parking on campus, visit Parking and Transportation Services. The Parking and Transportation department also sells one-day "scratchers". The cost is $12 for all-day parking in metered lots or "Visitor" lots or in an "A" or "C" lot. You must purchase these to park in "A" or "C" parking lots near CERAS.
