Greetings from the President-Elect
On behalf of the International and Comparative Education Program at Stanford University, I would like to welcome you to the 2005 Annual Meeting of the Comparative and International Education Society. We are organizing the meeting on the Stanford campus, a beautiful site in northern California's Santa Clara Valley, now known to the rest of the world as Silicon Valley. Stanford's reputation is that of a great intellectual institution, so we are trying to live up to that reputation, creating an event that will focus on bringing together as many of the major thinkers on comparative and international education that we can squeeze into four days of panels and presentations. We are also inaugurating a new feature this year-graduate students will have the opportunity to participate in panels that are moderated by senior faculty, who will also act as respondents, providing comments on the presentations. The meeting will not be all work either. The Gala this year will feature music and a dance floor...for us. Stanford has a world class Rodin museum, and Palo Alto has as many restaurants per acre as New York (it's a bit smaller, however). The train to San Francisco is easily accessible from the university and local hotels, but we hope to keep you so busy that you will wait until the weekend to visit the Golden Gate and all the other great sights in the City, as we call it here. See you in March! Martin Carnoy |
