Interests

Film, Art, Design

Prior to LDT

After graduating from the UCLA Film program in 1996, I went on to work
in a variety of roles in the film industry in Los Angeles.  My
experience included commercial art direction, production sound on
independent features for Sony Pictures Classics & HBO Films.  This
portion of my career was punctuated by several years as a camera
operator and lighting director on television shows for CBS (Big Brother) , Fox (54321) & ESPN. Before returning to Stanford, I moved back to my hometown of Boston, and taught filmmaking at Boston University while designing websites on the side.

LDT

Learning Goals
I was hoping to gain a better understanding of how people make sense
of their experience, enhance my own design process, demystify
technology and be able to employ it as a tool, and extend my aesthetic
senses.

Internship
HCI Group – Professor Scott Klemmer, School of Engineering.  I helped out with a study on opportunistic programming and mash-up designs.  I learned quite a bit about design research and discovered new techniques for making sense out of data.  It was great to be exposed to the methodologies of a different department.

Master’s Project
PEEK/RE:Search: A mobile / collaborative research tool to facilitate
discovery and support curiosity in informal learning environments.
Peek/RE:Serach

Life After LDT

I am currently working as a Fellow at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford . I am helping redesign the schools collaborative innovation spaces including a prototyping theater where students and faculty can test and display large scale work.  In addition, I guest lecturer for the d.school's design process classes and workshops and am helping to launch the d.school's first long term design project: K-12 education.
