Oral Diagnostic Assessments (ODAs)
ODAs are set up as Assignments in the CourseWork site for the class you are taking. If you can't find a particular ODA, contact your instructor.
When taking an ODA or a test you should NOT
write it out before you
do it!
Why not?
- Because your instructor has specifically requested that you don’t.
- Because the task is designed to assess your ability to speak, not read.
- Because your instructor may think you are able to speak better than you actually can.
- Because when you try to talk to a native speaker of the language, you won’t have time to write out every response.
- Because this is totally not for a grade – chill out!
For more details see the page on doing ODAs.
Microphone Check
If you in the Language Lab on the second floor of Meyer and are not sure that your microphone is working, you can check it using the Sound Recorder in Windows.
- Double-click on the Microphone Check icon on the desktop.
- Click on the red circle and say something into the microphone.
- Then click on the black square to stop.
- Finally, click on the green triangle to listen.
- Adjust the volume with the controls on in the right side of the task bar (the speaker icon) and with the control on the headset wire.
If you find that there is no sound, contact the staff in the Language Lab at the Meyer Tech Desk for assistance.
