Chinese - 1 Billion+ Native Speakers, Rank by Number of Speakers - 1

Chinese is a Sino-Tibetan language with more than a billion speakers world wide. It is by far the most commonly spoken first language in the world.  One out of five people on the planet speaks a form of Chinese.  Chinese speakers outnumber speakers in the next most populous linguistic group, Spanish, by almost three to one.
