Don't Miss the IT Open House on November 1, 2006

Whether you find technology a challenge or an adventure, you will be sure to benefit from the array of information, demos, and tours available at this year's Information Technology Open House on Wednesday, November 1, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in Meyer and Green Libraries.

Over 70 campus-wide library and technology services groups will offer information and advice about Stanford's rich information and technology resources, and a variety of vendors will be on hand to show their latest products. The Open House is sponsored by IT Services, Stanford University Libraries & Academic Information Resources (SULAIR), and Campus Wide Agreements (CWA).

At the IT Open House, you will find information about:

-Purchasing computer equipment and software through Stanford programs;
-Connecting to SUNet from home;
-Taking advantage of library resources and services;
-Protecting computers from viruses and spyware;
-Using technology in the classroom: programs to help in teaching, course software, data collections available for research and instruction; and much, much more!

You will also have a chance to see demos of new software and hardware resources, attend tours that highlight Green Library's services and facilities, check out the Stanford Libraries' book scanning robot in action, and learn more about the Stanford Google Library Project.

A group of technical "wizards" will be at the IT Open House to answer your hardest tech questions. Bring your tech conundrums to IT Service's team of expert wizards to solve.

THE 2006 SCIL SUMMER INSTITUTE

The Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning is pleased to announce its 2006 Summer Institute, a unique forum where researchers and practitioners will explore one of the most critical issues at the crossroads of teaching, learning and technology, as well as have an opportunity to connect with colleagues and peers in the field in a small, interactive setting on the Stanford campus.

Program Description
The 2006 SCIL Summer Institute will focus on designing learning spaces. During the three-day workshop, participants will gain experience in applying learning and design principles to creating learning spaces for a variety of settings. Participants will work in teams to prototype learning spaces, learn from case studies in the experimental interactive classrooms of Stanford's Wallenberg Hall and gain experience creating assessment and evaluation tools. At the end of the session, participants will take away a greater understanding of how pedagogy, design, and technology can intersect to provide an optimal learning experience.

Academic Computing and the Program in Writing and Rhetoric will be
hosting an Open House Event in the Multimedia Studio (http://acomp.stanford.edu/cams) on the second
floor of Meyer Library:

Refreshments will be served.

If you or your students aren't familiar with the Studio, please come
by on April 12th for a brief tour, to talk to an instructor about
how students use the Studio resources or to meet with a Studio
consultant for a demo of Studio equipment and software.

Multimedia workshop instructors will also be available during the Open House.

In addition to Studio usage and consultations, faculty, students and
staff can check out equipment such as camcorders, laptops and
external hard drives at the Meyer Library second floor consulting
desk.

The consulting desk staff also provides services for wide-format printing projects. Just drop off your files at the Desk along with payment and come back later to pick up the finished product.
