The computing facilities that we provide, both physical and virtual, are for use by those engaged in the academic mission of Stanford University. We restrict the use of services and facilities we provide to Stanford faculty, students, and staff, as well as sponsored visitors to Stanford. It is the responsibility of all members of the community to use these services and facilities appropriately, and in compliance with University, local, county, state and federal laws and regulations.
The primary policy for computing use at Stanford is the Stanford Computer and Network Usage Policy Stanford Computer and Network Usage Policy (PDF). This policy addresses (among other things) acceptable use of Stanford’s networks, computers and resources, compliance with copyright law, unrelated business activities, and protecting the University’s information assets.
All policies of the University, including the Fundamental Standard and the Honor Code, as well as policies for socially acceptable behavior including the Stanford Smoke-Free Environment and Sexual Harassment Policy, extend to the computing enviroment.
In addition to Stanford’s policies, users must respect the rules that govern use of Academic Computing facilties and services:
Residential Computing Acceptable Use Policy for use of technology in the residence halls.
