Kappa Alpha Theta

When asked to describe the Phi deutron chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, everyday adjectives fall short. In our organization, you'll find talented athletes, dancers, and committed students, all representing different faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds. At the end of the day this eclectic comes together at 585 Cowell Lane, where we live together in the house's two-room doubles and unwind with everything from movie nights to late Easy-mac/nacho "parties" in the open kitchen.

Also important of course, is the social aspect of our chapter, which begins with our surprise girls-only Bid Night following Recruitment and continues on throughout each quarter. During the year Thetas hosts a number of external social events, including several Row parties open to all members of the student body. We also co-sponsor several formals, pre-parties, and date functions with a variety of other Greek organizations. In addition to these highly involved options, Theta provides more relaxed and informal outlets. When the Stanford social scene fizzles out, or we're just too tired to move, the Thetas have tons of in-house activities, ranging from "OC" nights in the lounge to impromptu ice cream study breaks.

Equally significant in the chapter is our dedication to philanthropy. With options like cooking and serving weekly homeless breakfasts at Palo Alto Urban Ministry, organizing clothing drives and, of course, coordinating and executing the annual Thetabreakers 5K/10K run/walk to benefit CASA (Child Advocates of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties), every member has numerous opportunities to volunteer her time and effort. The rewards from these contributions are great, as Thetabreakers stands alone as the single highest grossing charity event run by a Greek organization in all of the United States.

As you can see, as Thetas we host parties and charity events, study breaks and homeless breakfasts. We also curate at the Cantor Center for the Arts, play volleyball, study abroad, dance in Urban Styles and receive patents for our own business ideas. Theta is defined by the independent actions of its individual members and the support they receive from their "sisters". It takes diverse Stanford women and unites them in a way that is hard to duplicate, still allowing for each girl's individual talents to shine. Theta means something different to each of its members- a fact of which we are very proud. Each of our members is valued for her own contributions to our chapter, and it is because of these women that our house is always full of fun, enthusiasm, and life. Welcome to Recruitment 2007, we can't wait to meet you!
