Conference, Awards, and Publications:
Vasile Stanescu serves, together with Professor Helena Pedersen (Malmö University, Sweden), as Senior Co-editor of the Critical Animal Studies Book Series published by Rodopi Press. He also serves on the review board and is part of the "Editor Collective" (i.e. co-editor) for the Journal for Critical Animal Studies. Stanescu has also reviewed texts for the journal Ethics and the Environment (Indiana University Press), the journal Critical Sociology (Sage Journals), and the books series Key Themes in 20th and 21st Century Literature and Culture (Polity Press). He has presented at or organized twenty-five academic conferences or symposia and has given invited talks for six different universities on the topic of critical animal theory and its relationship to environmentalism. Stanescu has nine publications (current or forthcoming), and four reprints. He has received eighteen awards, grants, or fellowships (including the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship, Allan Sanger Fellowship, and a fellowship from the Institutul Cultural Român). Stanescu is a founding member, and current co-organizer, of the Stanford Environmental Humanities Project. In 2010, Stanescu was chosen as the Tyke "Scholar of the Year" by the Institute for Critical Animal Studies. In 2011, he received an external grant from the Culture and Animals Foundation to help fund his current research on the intersection of animal rights and environmentalism.
