Student Awards and Publications

James Estrella was awarded a Diversifying Academia, Recruiting Excellence (DARE) Stanford Fellowship, became a UCLA School of Law Fellow, is an El Centro Chicano Graduate Scholar-in-Residence, and received an Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award.

Adrienne Rose Johnson was announced the winner of the Clayman Institute's 2012 Marjorie Lozoff Graduate Essay Prize for "Romancing the Dude Ranch, 1926-1947." Johnson was also announced the winner of the 2012 Alex McIntosh Best Graduate Paper Prize by the Association for the Study of Food and Society for her paper "The Pastoral Body."  She has also published "The Magic Metabolisms of Competitive Eating" in Taking Food Public: Redefining Foodways in a Changing World, Ed. Psyche Williams-Forson and Carole Counihan (2011) and has forthcoming "Romancing the Dude Ranch, 1927-1945" in Western Historical Quarterly (Fall 2012).

Brian Johnsrud was admitted into the Stanford Center on International Conflict and Resolution (SCICN) Graduate Fellows Program, (November 2010) and received a SCICN research grant, was awarded a Ric Weiland Graduate Fellowship (2011-2013), received an Abbasi Graduate Research Grant, and recently published "Putting the Pieces together Again: Digital Photography and the Compulsion to Order Violence at Abu Ghraib" in Visual Studies (2011), and has forthcoming "The Da Vinci Code, Crusade Conspiracies, and the War on Terror" in Conspiracy Theories between the U.S. and the Middle East, ed. Maurus Reinkowski and Michael Butter (2012); and forthcoming "Godes Thegnas: Authoritative Religious Violence in Old-English Heroic Poetry" in Postmedieval (2012).
