STARS Upgrade - December 2007
On this page:
Why is Stanford upgrading the STARS system?
Stanford will be upgrading its entire PeopleSoft system from
verision 8.0 to version 9.0 in 2008 (support from Oracle Corp. for
versions prior to 9.0 ends in August 2008). STARS, implemented later
than the main Student Administration and HR modules, currently runs on
PeopleSoft version 8.8. Since the "jump" to version 9.0 is a bit
smaller for STARS than for the rest of Stanford's PeopleSoft system,
the decision was made to move STARS to 9.0 first.
While the upgrade will not initially provide significant functional improvements, moving to version 9.0 will facilitate the addition of new features and enhancements in the future.
Administrative Systems is leading the project in collaboration with the Internal Audit and Institutional Compliance Department, which is the business owner of the STARS system.<top>
When is the upgrade happening?
The upgraded version of STARS will go live on December 3,
2007.
PLEASE NOTE: We have
identified several issues during the implementation of STARS V9. We
have categorized several of the items as "Open" and "Deferred." We are actively working
the Open Issues for remediation as soon as possible, including
requiring "fixes" from PeopleSoft/Oracle. The Deferred issues also
include items that are part of the standard, delivered
PeopleSoft/Oracle code and that are the default "as designed"
functionality.
A partial list of significant findings/issues can be found at: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/Internal-Audit/stars/v9_issues_07.html
Please report additional issues by filing a HelpSU Request.

General Information about STARS
The Stanford Training And Registration System (STARS) is Stanford's implementation of PeopleSoft's Enterprise Learning Management System (commonly referred to as either "ELM" or "LMS"). It is a distinct module in the PeopleSoft system that provides management with a centralized University-wide tracking tool for compliance and training administration.
STARS was first implemented in Spring 2005, replacing the legacy Prism Training system. Training and compliance programs use STARS to define and schedule training classes, register participants, track attendance/program completion, plan future training, etc. Programs using the system include:
- Internal Audit & Institutional Compliance
- SUMC Compliance
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Office of Development
- Research Compliance
- HR Learning & Development
- Stanford Health & Improvement Program (HIP)
- IT Services - Technical Training
- Information Security Office
Learners and Learning Administrators connect to the system via the Axess portal website.
