STARS v.9 Upgrade - Open and Deferred (As Designed) Issues
On this page:
Background
As with the implementation of any new system, there are issues that
arise that require additional attention beyond the system's Go-Live
date.
We are well aware of the issues with the prior version (8.x) of
STARS, and unfortunately, most of these issues currently still exist in
Version 9. In addition, there are several functionality issues with
the core PeopleSoft code (a.k.a. unmodified PeopleSoft code) for
version
9.
We are listing some of the more significant known issues with STARS
v9, and their respective status, for your information. The migration to
Version 9 is primarily a platform migration, no new significant
functional improvements were implemented over Version 8. We are
identifying the followin issues as "Open," items that are actively
being worked on, and "Deferred," issues resulting from the native "as
designed" functionality of PeopleSoft ELM, or actual PeopleSoft
software "bugs" that will be addressed by the vendor at a future date.
Open Issues
We classify issues that we are actively working as "Open
Issues. For many issues, we have opened a case (ticket) with
PeopleSoft, and the vendor is
developing a "fix" to deliver code to Stanford that will resolve the
identified issue. We are also working internally to resolve these
issues.
| Issue |
Role |
Additional
Information |
| Verity Index Issue - the indicies are not successfully running | Administrator | The issue is resolved and the process is scheduled to run avery 15 minutes. The functionality is the same as in Ver 8. (ISSUE RESOLVED - 12/03/07) |
| Custom upload of batch files of Users' Completion Status is not functioning properly. | Administrator | Due to changes in PeopleSoft delivered code, the batch file upload process requires additional configuration changes. In addition, the data format requirements also changed which necessitates modification of the data layout. The issues have been identified, and remediation steps are being made and are anticipated to be ready for testing soon. (RESOLVED - 12/14/07) |
| Learners who "drop" for-fee courses are not being charged the correct "drop fee." | Administrator | Due to changes in PeopleSoft delivered code, the 2 separate, custom, processes that processed "drop fees" for last minute cancellations are no longer applicable. The 2 PeopleSoft processes in Version 8 are combined into a single process in Version 9. The issue has been identified, and remediation steps are being made and are anticipated to be ready for testing soon. (ETA - 12/17/07) |
| Attendance data field is displaying the system default "Invalid Value" for learners who in Ver 8 production had been marked as "Attended." | Administrator | Stanford opened a critical ticket with Oracle. The problem arises due to a change in table structure in Version 9 that alters the means that STARS reports the users' "completion status." (ETA - unknown, pending PeopleSoft/Oracle) |
| Workforce Synchronization
Issue - Improper data synchronization with the Registries |
Administrator & Learner |
The issue is related to Peoplecode and the receipt and recognition of Registry information. The fix has been coded and tested on Monday (12/03). The Registry messages will be queued until the fix is migrated into Production. (RESOLVED - 12/04/07) |
| Spurious email notices to users | Administrator & Learner |
The issue is related to a "bug" in the delivered code from PeopleSoft. PeopleSoft has identifed the issue and will deliver the fix in an upcoming software bundle. AS will bypass this code until the code bundle is delivered. (Workaround solution in place - 12/03/07 - Still waiting for Code Bundle) |
| Unable to correctly view STAP balances. | Learner |
Identified issue and AS
is
writing the fixlet for STAP self-service functionality. (RESOLVED - 12/03/07) |
| Some Users receiving an "access denied" error in STARS | Learner | This is a known issue that AS are currently fixing. (RESOLVED - 12/04/07) |
| Some Users' Completion Status is shown as "In-Progress" when the Activity should be recorded as "Completed." | Learner | Due to changes in PeopleSoft delivered code, Learner's Completion Status for was not properly updated. The issue has been identified in the AICC Setup and Configuration, and remediated, future completion of Activities will be properly processed in STARS. (RESOLVED - 12/12/07, workaround required in some circumstances) |
Deferred (aka "As Designed by PeopleSoft") Issues
There are a
number of these issues are reflections of the awkwardness of the
PeopleSoft ELS 9.0 interface, and/or from "bugs"
in the PeopleSoft delivered code. Most of these User Interface
issues also occur
in ELM 8.8 (previous versions of STARS) and are classified as "As
Designed." We will continue to work on these issues, with Oracle as
appropriate.
| Issue | Role | Additional Information |
| User receives an error when changing the status on "Activity Roster" Page. | Administrator | Go to the Administer Activity Rosters page and search this activity again, the status still showed as "Enrolled". the defaulted
learner groups. |
