Responsibilities
It is Stanford University policy that the P.I., or faculty member in charge of a lab, is responsible for safety associated with laser use in his or her area. When a faculty investigator has a number of lasers under his or her control, it may be appropriate to appoint a local laser safety advisor or a safety committee to review and implement local safety procedures.

Health Physics is responsible for inspecting laser safety practices and informing responsible persons of situations where recommended safety practices are not being followed. Health Physics provides basic laser safety training and maintains training resources and some supplies (signs, labels, etc.) to assist laser users. Health Physics maintains copies of current Standards and regulations, which may be reviewed by users.
