The 2009 Stanford University Emergency Exercise will be based on a magnitude 6.9 earthquake, striking along the Hayward Fault. The exercise will be conducted in two phases. On February 5, 2009 the majority of the response will take place with simultaneous activation of the University Emergency Operations Center and all departmental Satellite Operations Centers to simulate the university response, allocation of resources and test communications between the entities. On January 30, 2009 there will be an optional field day which will be comprised of three types of events, a triage exercise being conducted by Vaden Student Health Services in cooperation with the Stanford Hospital and Clinics, a Building Assessment Team member building survey exercise, and a Stanford Community Emergency Response Team search and rescue exercise.
