Battery Recycling Program

As part of its overall Environmental Stewardship outreach efforts, the department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is pleased to announce an improved "Battery Recycling Program" for the campus community. EH&S' goal with the program is to improve how used household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt and rechargeables) are collected throughout campus.

For issues related to Student Housing Battery Recycling Locations, please contact Suzie Claxton at: 723-7187.

For issues related to non-Student Housing Battery Recycling Locations, please contact Chris Craig at: 723-0654.

Departments can discard their used batteries in one of three ways.

Batteries can be picked up by EH&S following submittal of a written request; or, batteries can be placed in EH&S-provided accumulation containers, located in common areas such as copy rooms, lobbies or break rooms and picked up regularly; or, for smaller departments, batteries may be accumulated in EHS-provided padded envelopes to be mailed back to EH&S through the interdepartmental mail service.

The program has been well received in the areas covered so far, including the Schools of Medicine and Engineering, Facilities Operations and even President Hennessy's Office.
