EH&S STAFF PROFILES

Health Physics Group Staff

Lance J. Phillips, CHP

I was appointed Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Stanford University on October 1, 2002. As RSO, I am responsible for managing the health physics programs and radioactive materials use licenses for the University, Stanford Hospital, Packard Children's Hospital and the Palo Alto-VA Medical Center.

I have been with Stanford University since August 1998 serving as a Senior Health Physicist in the Environmental Health and Safety department. I am certified by the American Board of Health Physics and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. I have a MS in Radiological Health Physics and a BS in Nuclear Engineering. Prior to coming to Stanford, I served as RSO for the Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE), a large medical research group based on the campus of the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Before that, I was a project engineer and the RSO for National Nuclear Corporation in Sunnyvale, California.

I am married, have two pre-teen sons, a dog and live in Cupertino. I enjoy camping with my family and watching and playing sports with my boys.
