All new *STANFORD investigators who use human subjects in their research activities will be required to take CITI initial training. Additionally, a CITI refresher course is required for all investigators who have not taken the previously required Human Subjects Tutorial within the last two years (Investigators include Protocol Directors and all research staff listed on the protocol application form).

* The five STANFORD affiliated organizations are:

Stanford University

• Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC)

• Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford (LPCH)

• Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS)

• Palo Alto Institute for Research and Education (PAIRE)

VAPAHCS investgators (which includes Stanford investigators who do research at the VA) are required to take the training annually; all other Stanford investigators will take the Stanford required training every 2 years.

Third party (subcontract) research personnel or consultants must comply with this education requirement as well. They may satisfy this requirement at their home institutions, provided that Stanford is assured of completion of the necessary training. A letter, certificate, or email notification by a representative from the home institution will satisfy this requirement. If you have any questions regarding the CITI Training, please contact the IRB Education Specialist at IRBEducation@Stanford.edu.
