Option D.

Develop a protocol describing the project and submit it to the Nonmedical Human Subjects Panel requesting expedited review.

Among the options presented, this is the best choice.

Federal regulations permit certain types of research projects, which pose only minimal risk to participants, to be reviewed on an expedited basis. One such category is:

Research on individual or group characteristics or behavior, or research employing survey, interview, oral history, focus group, program evaluation, human factors evaluation, or quality assurance methodologies.

The survey methodology described here poses little if any risk to participants and may qualify for expedited review. The class should prepare a protocol describing the project and submit it to the Panel with a request for an expedited review.

The Panel Coordinator in the Research Compliance Office can advise on preparation of the protocol, and on the appropriateness of an expedited review.
