CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
Sweet Hall, 4th floor
723-1326
http://ctl.stanford.edu/
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) offers a broad range of programs for interested faculty and graduate students. At the start of each Fall Quarter, CTL organizes a half-day teaching orientation that includes presentations and workshops to help teaching assistants prepare for their classroom responsibilities. Periodic lectures by award-winning teachers and workshops on a wide variety of teaching topics are offered throughout the year, and mini-orientations are given at the beginning of Winter and Spring Quarters.
CTL's teaching consultants are available to advise faculty and graduate student instructors by making classroom visits, facilitating student feedback and evaluations, and discussing various teaching challenges. Videotaping with an optional follow-up assessment is also available at no cost to all interested faculty and graduate student instructors. In addition to housing a library of books, informative handouts, and videotapes on teaching, CTL offers graduate students materials on putting together teaching portfolios and preparing academic job talks.
CTL's Teaching at Stanford: An Introductory Handbook for Faculty, Academic Staff/Teaching, and Teaching Assistants is available from your department or from CTL's website. The Center also publishes Speaking of Teaching, a quarterly newsletter featuring commentary on current pedagogical trends and research.
