| Gravity Probe
B confirms two Einstein theories Stanford and NASA researchers have confirmed two predictions of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity, concluding one of the space agency's longest-running projects. Known as Gravity Probe B, the experiment used ultra-precise gyroscopes in a satellite to measure the geodetic effect (the warping of space and time around a gravitational body), and frame-dragging (the amount a spinning object pulls space and time with it as it rotates). |

Energy Efficiency Center awards faculty research grants Stanford's Precourt Energy Efficiency Center (PEEC) has awarded three grants totaling nearly $400,000 to faculty who will investigate the reduction of energy used by buildings. Awards were made to faculty in Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Economics and the Graduate School of Business. |
