Educational Assessment

Important Points in this Case Study

Federal regulations permit exemptions for certain types of research with human subjects which pose minimal risk to participants.

Educational assessments and testing are typically exempt. In addition, medical research involving publicly available medical specimens or data, when subjects cannot be identified, is also usually exempt.

Decisions about whether or not a project is exempt are made as part of the Panel review process, described in the FWA module of this tutorial.

If you believe your project is exempt, you must file the appropriate application, and you will be advised how to proceed by the Panel.
