Events Calendar
Tuesday, November 12, 2009, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Welcome Dinner for 2009 Stanford Graduate Fellows at the Faculty Club. The 2009 Graduate Fellowship Faculty Advisory Committee hosts a dinner to meet the recently named 2009 Stanford Graduate Fellows. Invitations will be distributed early in autumn quarter.
2009 Fellows are asked to reply by October 31, 2009.

The SGF Faculty Committee and the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education host events throughout the year for Stanford
Graduate Fellows.
Autumn Quarter
A dinner at the Faculty Club is an opportunity for new Stanford Graduate
Fellows to meet each other. Past speakers include James Spudich, Professor of Biochemistry and Developmental Biology (2003); Jeffrey Koseff, Professor of Civi and Environmental Engineering (2002); Robert Simoni, Professor
of Biological Sciences (2001); Lucy Shapiro, Professor of Developmental
Biology (2000); James Plummer, Dean, School of Engineering (1999); Richard
Zare, Professor of Chemistry (1998); and Steve Chu, Professor of Applied
Physics and Physics, Nobel Laureate (1997).
Winter Quarter
Stanford Graduate Fellows and spouses/significant others gather for a brunch or afternoon receptionr brunch in the winter quarter.
Past speakers include Dr. Burt McMurtry, President, SU Board of Trustees (2003); President Emeritus Gerhard Casper (2002); SGF alumni Professor Noam Sobel, U.C. Berkeley and
Dr. James Freitag, IBM Storage Systems Division (2002); John
Hennessy, President (2001); Patricia P. Jones, Vice Provost for Faculty
Development, Professor of Biological Sciences (2000); and Donald Kennedy,
Professor of Biological Sciences, President Emeritus (1999).
Spring Quarter
The SGF Research Symposium celebrates the achievements of the Stanford
Graduate Fellows. Fellows present posters and talks to all SGF Fellows,
SGF mentors, and friends of the SGF program. See pictures
from the 2002 SGF Research Symposium. Past keynote speakers
include Robert M. Sapolsky, The John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn Professor of Biological Sciences and Professor of Neurology and Neurological Sciences, and of Neurosurgery (by courtesy), Stanford University (2004); Bassam Z. Shakhashiri, Professor of Chemistry, University of Wisconsin (2003); Dr. Craig R. Barrett, CEO of Intel Corporation (2002); George
M. Whitesides, Professor of Chemistry, Harvard University (2001); The
Honorable Dr. Arthur Bienenstock, Associate Director for Science Of
the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (2000); and
Dr. Eric Lander, Director, Whitehead Institute/MIT Center for Genome
Research (1999).
Small Group Events
Occasionally groups of Stanford Graduate Fellows organize educational
or networking events to pursue common interests. The Vice Provost and
Dean of Graduate Studies reserves a pool of funds to support such events
each year. Stanford Graduate Fellows may contact the Program Officer
for further information.
