BIO:

Otavio Leonídio(Otavio Leonídio Ribeiro, Rio de Janeiro, March 19, 1965. Brazilian) has a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism (1994), and a Doctorate in History (2005). He is a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design (in the School of Architecture and Urbanism), and of History and Theory of Art and Design (in the PhD Program) of the Department of Arts and Design at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro/PUC-Rio (2005-present); former director of PUC-Rio’s School of Architecture and Urbanism (2005-2008); member of the Board of Jurors, and of the Superior Board of the Brazilian Institute of Architects at Rio de Janeiro/IAB-RJ (2010-present). co-founder of Casa de Lucio Costa (Lucio Costa Foundation);  member of the editorial board of scientific periodicals such as Noz, Estudos em Design, and Academia; author of the book Carradas de razões: Lucio Costa e a arquitetura moderna brasileira (2007), and co-author of Um modo de ser moderno: Lucio Costa e a crítica contemporânea (2004); founding member of the research group “Caminhos do Moderno: pensamento, política e arte” (“Paths of modernity – philosophy, politics, and art” - PUC-Rio, 2009-present). Professor Leonídio is currently working on a book about American artistic practices of the 1960’s, such as Happenings and Performances. His forthcoming publications include an essay about “Post-historical” photography, in which he highlights the work of the Brazilian photographer Alair Gomes. Professor Leonídio is married to Maria Isabel Schmidt Palmeiro.
