Fred Porta has a PhD in Classical Philology from Harvard and works on comparative Indo-European linguistics and literature. For the past 9 years he has been here at Stanford teaching Sanskrit for the Special Language Program and (sometimes) Ancient Greek for the Classics Department. By student requests he has also taught classes and tutorials in many rarely taught ancient languages, including Old Persian, Avestan, Sogdian, Parthian, Khotanese, Tocharian, Gandhari, Prakrit, Pali, Hittite, Luwian, Old Irish, Mycenaean Linear B, and Ancient Greek Dialects.
