Focus is on principal elements and expressive devices of lyric poetry: multidimensional use of language, denotation, connotation, image, metaphor, symbol, paradox, irony, meaning, idea, rhythm, and meter. Readings include the best of major poets of Spain and Latin America: Becquer, Rosalia de Castro, Ruben Dario, Unamuno, Antonio Machado, García Lorca, Neruda, and Gabriela Mistral. Bilingual in English and Spanish with an emphasis on Spanish.
