Jean Ma received her Ph.D. in cinema and media studies from the University of Chicago. Her research interests include contemporary Chinese-language cinema, avant-garde cinema, early cinema, critical theory, and film theory. Her dissertation focused on the work of director Hou Hsiao-hsien. Ma's most recent publication is Still Moving: Between Cinema and Photography (2008).
