The definition of Asian American Cinema is as difficult to pin down as the term Asian America is itself, a term popularized by Japanese American political activist Yuji Ichioka in the 1960s. Used originally to unify the political interests of Asians living in the United States, the term “Asian America” has since been used in a myriad of other contexts, such as race studies, cultural studies, and art history.
