Introduction to Cognitive and Information Sciences
Readings from Blink
Malcolm Gladwells best-seller Blink (Little, Brown and Company,
2005) is, as his subtitle describes it, a book about Thinking
without Thinking. I will talk about how some of the ideas raised
in Blink relate to philosophical conceptions of thought at the
end of my lecture on Thursday.
Before I give that talk, it would be helpful for you to have a sense of
what the book talks about, which you can get from the following
readings:
- Malcolm Gladwells short description of Blink on his
website

- The excerpt on The Second Mind from the introduction

- Ambady and Rosenthal,
Half a minute: Predicting teacher evaluations from thin slices of
nonverbal behavior and physical attactiveness
