What Should We Remember?

Our project attempted to address some of the policy-based ethical and social issues associated with assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs).  However,  those we covered only scratch the surface of this far-reaching topic.  In order to develop policy that truly encompasses every dimension of these complex issues, measures must be taken to inform and inspire more members of the health policy community to take action.  An informed dialogue among all parties involved - healthcare professionals, consumers, ethicists, and insurance providers - is critical for meeting the needs of the nation's 6 million
infertile couples.  Other measures, such as educational pamphlets, petitions, increased lobbying efforts, and a letter-writing campaign on both local and state levels, will help to increase awareness.  Regulation through legislation or increased oversight within the medical community will hopefully lead to greater access to and public knowledge of advances in assisted reproductive technology.
