Jia Xu
Jia is a 4th year PhD student in the Aircraft Design Group at Stanford. His research is focused on the design and optimization of strut-braced wings for greener, more efficient airliners. Before coming to Stanford Jia spent time designing warships and airplanes. He studied international relations and fluid dynamics in London and went through a brief policy wonk phase working in think tanks and government agencies across the Atlantic. Jia is a novice in entrepreneurship. His first experience came last year when he led two different teams to the semi-finalist round of the Stanford Entrepreneurship Challenge and the Social E-Challenge. The two ideas cannot be more different: a new way to sell furniture and a ultra-low cost remote sensing platform. Along the way Jia faced challenges and committed mistakes that will soon become all too familiar to the students of MS&E 273. Jia enjoys biking in the hills and to the City on the weekends so shoot him an email and come along if are not busy working on your business plan.* *You should be busy working on your business plan for MS&E273.
