PhD Candidate
Materials Science & Engineering
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Craig is currently in his 3rd year of graduate school in the materials science & engineering department where he focuses on organic and inorganic solar energy technologies. After joining Professor Michael McGehee's team in 2006 Craig began to work on solving the problem of insufficient exciton diffusion lengths in organic semiconductors, a problem that plagues organic solar cells, by using a resonant energy transfer process between molecules. This work has led to his current idea of combining silicon nanowires with organic dyes to make the first dye-sensitized silicon nanowire solar cell.

Prior to joining Stanford, Craig co-founded Stockback.com, an online financial services company that allowed credit card holders to earn shares in a mutual fund for purchases made with their cards. The mutual fund was comprised of shares in the merchants that supplied the rebates on the credit card purchases, thus becoming the first consumer reward program that converts customers of a store into shareholders of that store. The company was sold to Vesdia Corporation, a key competitor, in May of 2004, at which point Craig made the jump into the sciences.

Before Stockback.com, Craig worked at Lehman Brothers as a currency and forward interest rate trader on the London desk. For the record, he had nothing to do with the recent collapse of the investment banking Golaith.

Craig has spent over 5 years living in Japan where he studied martial arts, taught English and attempted to start the first smoothie chain in the country. If you ever need good entertainment just ask him what mistakes were made in starting that business.

Craig enjoys just about any sport including windsurfing, tennis, baseball, basketball and running.
