Doree Allen Director, Oral Communication Program, Center for Teaching and Learning

Dr. Allen is the coordinator for CTL’s interdisciplinary program in Oral Communication where she teaches a variety of courses on public speaking and oral interpretation.  Her research interest lies in the poetics of performed texts. She received both her MA and Ph.D. in English from Stanford and taught for several years in Stanford’s Cultures, Ideas, and Values Program.


Janet Martinez Director, Gould Negotiation and Mediation Program, Law School

Dr. Martinez focuses her research and consulting on negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building.  As director of the Law School’s Gould Negotiation and Mediation Program, a consultant for the Consensus Building Institute in Cambridge, MA, and a consultant for the mediation consulting firm Lax Sebenuis, she has extensive expertise in developing negotiation curriculum for the private and public sector.  Dr. Martinez received her J.D. from Golden Gate University, her M.P.A. from Harvard University, and her Ph.D. from MIT.


Linda Netsch Lecturer, Gould Negotiation and Mediation Program, Law School

Ms. Netsch is an attorney specializing in negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation. She founded Align Consulting and works with business, legal, and government professionals throughout the United States, Europe, The Middle East and Latin America. Ms. Netsch also teaches at Stanford Law School, Harvard Law School, and Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School.


Jessica Notini Lecturer, Gould Negotiation and Mediation Program, Law School

Ms. Notini is a full-time mediator and facilitator and teaches a variety of subjects related to communication, negotiation and conflict resolution both in California and internationally. Prior to her work in the field of alternative dispute resolution, she practiced environmental law.  Ms. Notini is a core trainer for the Northern California Mediation Center, an Adjunct Professor at Boalt Law School, Hastings School of Law, Golden Gate University and John F. Kennedy University, and she teaches courses in Spain, Peru, Equador and Mexico.  She received her J.D. from the University of Michigan where she was awarded the Order of the Coif.


Sharon Richmond Leadership Coach, Center for Leadership Development & Research, Graduate School of Business

Ms. Richmond is the founder and principal of Richmond & Associates, a management consulting firm specializing in business-driven change management. She has helped executives build the capability, culture, structure, and leadership crucial to their organization’s success. Ms. Richmond has helped develop the new experientially based leadership program for Stanford’s Business School. She received her M.B.A. from Stanford.


Terry Root Professor, Biological Sciences; Senior Fellow, Woods Institute

Dr. Root’s research focus is on large-scale ecological questions examining the abundance of plants and animals.  She has been awarded the Presidential Young Investigators Award, the Conservation Achievement Award, and the Banksia International Award among others for her work on conservation.  She is also lead author on the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  Dr. Root received her Ph.D. in Biology from Princeton University.
