LING 695B      ADVANCED PRONUNCIATION

Course Description: This class is designed to review and reinforce the sound, stress, and intonation patterns of English in order to improve spoken proficiency and gain confidence in speaking. Students will be analyzed to identify individual problems and those of the group, and will receive a personal inventory of speech errors. They will practice correct speech patterns in class exercises and on individual recordings to be done every two weeks. Students are expected to spend at least three (3) hours each week practicing with the Well Said CDs and other exercises. Every other week, they will meet with the instructor for personalized instruction.  In addition, students will prepare and present various exercises in class.

Course Requirements:

Attendance: At least 90% of the required classes.
Taping: A recording to be done every 2 weeks. 
Homework: Assignments will be given from Well Said. Students are expected to listen to the CD assignments and do all exercises in the text.
Conferences: Meet with the instructor for individual instruction. 
Progress: Show improvement in pronunciation of problem sounds, stress and intonation.
Final Exam:  Final recording and Final assignment.

Grading Policy:  In this class, you may only receive credit or no credit.  In order to receive credit you are expected to fulfill the above requirements.

Any student who needs special help getting to class, hearing in class, seeing written material, or doing some other tasks should discuss the need with the instructor the first week of class.  The student must obtain professional diagnosis of the need area at the university's Disability Resource Center.
