Public Health Implications
While scabies affects individuals around the world, especially destructive and macro-scale epidemics have been linked to poverty, poor water supply, inadequate sanitation, and overcrowding. Personal hygiene is an important measure in preventing scabies, and access to a clean water supply is critical in the control of the parasite prevalence. This suggests that there is an ever-more pressing need for more sophisticated water and sanitation services in underdeveloped areas. On the right is the WHO's cycle of public health intervention.
