- Populations that defecate directly onto soil and do not customarily wear shoes [A]
- Hookworm occurs worldwide
- N. americanus found mainly in the Americas and Australia
- A. duodenale found mainly in Middle East, North Africa and Southern Europe
- Both species are found in Asia, the Americas and Africa [F]
- Due to increasing exposure of people to various parts of the world, the two genera's geographic boundaries will likely disappear
- (1972) 12% of rural school children in Georgia and 15% of those in Kentucky had hookworm [A]
