Your Business Plan." ~ Steve Blank
Summary
This is the first of two sessions where
we discuss the differences between an idea and an opportunity. In this
session, we look at the particular challenges of new ventures in
virtual worlds.
Read the Opportunity
Analysis Project description completely. Come prepared with a
few potential ideas and opportunities you would like to
explore. Be prepared to ask any questions you have about the
project.
Brainstorm a list of some exciting technologies and their
associated industries. Be prepared to share some ideas with the class!
If you don't have a LinkedIn Profile, please set one up. Starting
with
the initial notion of professionals creating an online representation
of their network, answer the following questions:
1. What do you think are
the critical metrics Reid needs to be measuring to know how his
business is doing and how his business is growing? (e.g. monthly
revenues, number of registered users)
2. At what point should Reid start thinking about the business model?
Walk through one potential business models (How will they
generate revenue? Who will pay them? How much will they
pay? For
what services?) and size the opportunity.
Note: All teams must perform the
analysis, but only Teams A need to submit a written version to the
homework list.
