About the talk:

In our mobile society, the location of an item of value has become an intrinsic attribute which many different applications require in order to be effective. GPS has been the cornerstone of location systems for consumer products for over 10 years but has always had its limitations. With advanced silicon and software techniques and now new technologies on the horizon make the ultimate goal of ubiquitous location is almost here. This talk will cover the current state of the art in GPS and GNSS satellite navigation systems and explore some of the new technologies available for Hybrid positioning which will allow the next generation of location-based applications to storm through the consumer market.

About the speaker:

Greg Turetzky is currently the Marketing Director for New Product Technology and IP at SiRF Technology, Inc. Greg initially joined SiRF as a product manager over 8 years ago and was one of the first 10 people at the company. During his tenure there, he has worked in marketing, SW engineering, sales and even operations. His responsibilities include defining new technologies and new applications for SiRF's location products across all of SiRF's markets in automotive, consumer electronics, enterprise applications and wireless communication platforms. In addition, he has been the program manager for the incorporation of GPS technology into Nextel cell phones, the leading provider of location based services in the US today. Prior to joining SiRF, he worked in GPS receiver design and applications for 6 years at Trimble Navigation including their IPO. Prior to that he was at Stanford Telecommunications and the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Turetzky holds a B.A. in Physics from Cornell University and an M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and several patents in GPS.
