It will cover the latest system architecture SGI is delvering to the market, which provide the foundation elements to support multi-paradigm computing. SGI's RASC (Reconfigurable Application Specific Computing) technology will be reviewed as a key element of this new architecture

About the speaker:
Michael Woodacre, Chief Engineer, Sever Platform Group, SGI Michael is currently leading the definition of SGI’s next generation system architecture, codenamed Ultraviolet. Ultraviolet is based on SGI’s 5th generation of distributed shared memory systems, providing a multi-paradigm computing environment. Michael is also the senior technical liason between SGI and Intel. Michaels previous projects at SGI have included design of the Origin2000, Origin3000, and Altix 3000 system families. Particular interests include the design and formal verification of cache coherent protocols for ccNUMA systems. Prior to joining SGI, Michael worked for INMOS in the UK, where he worked on the design of transputer microprocessors. He was also with MIPS Computer Systems, where he worked on the R4000, R4400, and R8000 microprocessors. Michael has been with SGI for 15 years, spending the majority of that time at the company headquarters in Mountain View, California. In recent years, he has been based in the UK, helping to build a closer relationship between European customers, the European field organisation, and SGI core engineering. Michael has a B.Sc (1st class, Hons) in Computer Systems Engineering, The University of Kent, Canterbury, UK. He was awarded the Engineering Industries Association, Computer Engineering Graduate of the year award He lives in Wiltshire in the UK, with his wife and 2 children aged 10 and 8.
