EE364a: Homework

Professor Stephen Boyd, Stanford University, Spring Quarter 2008–09

Homework is due by 5 pm in the inbox outside Denise’s office, Packard 267. Late homework will not be accepted. All numbered exercises are from the textbook.

You will sometimes need to download Matlab files.

  • Homework 1, due Friday 4/10/09:
    2.1, 2.2, 2.6, 2.9, 2.12, 2.15, 2.28, and 2.36. (For 2.36, you can skip the dual cone part.)
Hint for 2.28: A symmetric matrix is positive semidefinite if and only if all principal minors (determinants of submatrices obtained by selecting the same subset of rows and columns) are nonnegative.

  • Homework 2, due Friday 4/17/09:
    3.2, 3.3, 3.6, 3.15, 3.16, 3.32, 3.36(a,c), 4.1, and some additional exercises.
For 3.6 only, you can just state your answer: proofs are not required.
