EE353 |
High demand for this class in the past has made registration difficult. Student comments and course reviews are available. Please register only if you plan to take the class and are familiar with the class and its goals, methods, grading, and attendance policies, all of which can be found on this site. This ensures maximum access for students wait-listed for the course. Course will be taught again in Spring, 2008.
Registration on AXESS will open at 8am on March 10, 2008. Students from all departments are welcome. The class is intended for M.S. and Ph.D. students. Note that Computer Science M.S. and Ph.D. students can count EE353 as an elective. No special approval is required; students enter it in the 'Electives' area of their M.S. program sheet. A maximum of 60 students, on a first come first served basis.
No departmental or instructor approval is required to register for EE353. Students who try to register after the first 60 registrations will receive an error message from AXESS. We encourage students to place themselves on the waiting list via email (see below). You should attend the first class. Students will be placed on the waiting list in the order in which their requests have been received. Whether students are admitted to the class will depend on whether the students ahead of them on the list decide to enroll. For this reason, we ask that anyone who signs up but later decides not to take the class to notify the instructors by email as soon as possible. In previous years, many students have been able to attend from the waiting list. Every student must attend the first two classes to keep his or her place on the registration list.
Waiting List. After registration fills to capacity at sixty students, students may place themselves on the waiting list by sending email to the EE353 waiting list. The body of the email should be blank. The subject line of the email should be of the form Subject: LastName, FirstName, Stanford Email, Department. The email is parsed electronically, please don't email the instructors to get on the list. Students are not on the waiting list until they see their names on the current waiting list for EE353 (2008).
Because the class uses Harvard Cases, Notes, and Business Review articles, which are expensive if purchased at retail prices, the required course reader will now be available for purchase directly through Harvard Business School Online Publishing. Each student will purchase one copy of the course materials online and print out the materials for himself or herself. (Please respect the copyright of the authors and purchase a legal copy of the course reader. No sharing.) The price of the course reader is approximately $95, which is a significant discount over the retail price.
Supplemental class material and threaded discussions are available on the Facebook Group Stanford EE353 -- Business Management for Engineers and Computer Scientists. Membership is approved for all current and former EE353 students. Students are strongly encouraged to join the group. You must have a current facebook account and you must apply to join the group.
