Summary of Statistical Findings
The majority of both Israelis and Palestinians wants a peaceful, two-state solution to the current conflict in the Middle East. The majority supports negotiations towards recognizing Israel as a Jewish state separate from a Palestinian state. The majority of both parties recognizes that a permanent settlement must be reached to prevent further violence.
Specific Statistics
- 66% of the Israelis and 63% of the Palestinians support a mutual recognition of Israel as the state of the Jewish people and Palestine as the state of the Palestinian people after the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the settlement of all issues in dispute. - 74% of the Palestinians and 73% of the Israelis support negotiations between Israel and Abu Mazen over a final status settlement. (CFR, September 2006)
