Help! I can't see the files in my submission folder. Did my submission fail?
The permissions for the submissions directory do not allow students to read any submitted files, even their own. Unfortunately, restricting the read privileges also means you won't be able to see any files once you submit them. If you're feeling antsy, you can email your section leader or just resubmit, to be double sure.
I'm getting crazy errors trying to connect to the elaines. Can I do anything?
The elaines are pretty old machines and are being retired shortly. We are going to transition to the pod machines, so anywhere you see "elaine" in the submission instructions go ahead and replace it with "pod" instead. Otherwise the submission process should be the same.
Where do I turn in paper copies of assignments if I can't make it to lecture?
There is box outside of Gates 160 where you can turn in 106b assignments. If the box is not there, you can slip it under the door with a note.
I have a scheduling conflict with my section time. Can I switch sections?
You can switch to any section that has open positions using the CS198 site. However, you should also talk with your section leader and the section leader for the time you're signing up for, just to make sure it's ok.
How do I sign up for section?
Go to the CS198 Site and follow the instructions for signing up for section.
How do I download Visual Studio 2005?
You will need an ELMS account. If you were enrolled in the class as of April 3, you should have received an email with instructions for how to log in.
What does this ELMS notification email look like?
The actual email will most likely be titled "Welcome to MSDN Academic Alliance: Online Software System" and will be sent from "User Import" with the email address of system_mail@e-academy.com. So please be on the lookout because this may not be what you were initially expecting.
I signed up late or have not yet received ELMS access. What should I do?
You need to email Bear as soon as possible. He will set you up with an ELMS account. You MUST send the email from a valid Stanford email address.
I have another version of Visual Studio. Can I use it?
You can use VS2003, and can find the libraries in the same location as the 2005 libraries. However, we do not currently support VS2008 and you will have to install VS2005.
I have a previous installation of Visual Studio but want/need to install 2005. What should I do?
Unfortunately, you will have to uninstall previous versions of Visual Studio before installing 2005 in order for the CS106 libraries to work correctly. Additionally, if you have a previous version of the 106 libraries installed, you MUST uninstall them before uninstalling your alternate version of Visual Studio.
