Stanford University Compilers Download Page

This is the central download page for compilers licensed for use at Stanford University. Currently there are three things available from here: The Metrowerks Codewarrior compiler 8.0 for Mac and PC, The Codewarrior documentation PDFs, and the Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 .NET for the PC.

Metrowerks CodeWarrior Academic is site-licensed, meaning that any member of the Stanford community (student, faculty, staff) is eligible to download and use a copy of the software in pursuit of University activities (coursework, research, projects, etc.). Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 .NET is restricted to students and staff members for use in completing any academic coursework.

Very important! Before downloading any of this software, please be aware that it is all governed by rules of acceptable use, including the Stanford Computer and Network Usage Policy, ResComp Acceptable Use Policy, Copying of Computer Software Policy, Honor Code, and Fundamental Standard. Basically, these state that you are to use these only for your own personal purposes as related to University work, that you will not redistribute this software to other individuals, and that you will not do anything inappropriate with the software. Most of this is governed by common sense, but it is very important to follow the rules; the temptation to give a copy to a friend at home may be great, but is expressly not allowed, either by our licenses or our policies, and are grounds for severe disciplinary action. We reserve the right to keep track of downloads of the software. If you wish to read the specific policies, they are available here. Be sure you are comfortable with these before proceeding.

The following two links will take you to the actual code download pages; clicking on them will initiate user authentication, for which you will need your leland username and password. In addition, clicking on either of these links signifies your acceptance of the policies stated above. If you do not agree, or have any questions, do not download this software. Contact us instead.

For Java development on your own machine, there are some further Codewarrior updates available from www.metrowerks.com that you can apply on top of the version here. The improvements are nice but not crucial.
