Michelle Cabalu worked as a graphic designer for six years in the newspaper and book publishing industries, before embarking on a career in film. As a linguistic anthropology student at UCLA, she conducted a research project in Manila, Philippines employing video and ethnographic interviews. Recent films include Roll, a portrait of Walter Ellis, the first African-American competitive roller skater, Blip on the Screen, a postmortem of the San Francisco dot-com boom, and Being Ghetto, a personal film exploring different perspectives on cultural identity. Michelle is currently working towards an MA degree in the Stanford Documentary Film and Video Program.
