ICE-1 in-class assignment:

• Task: Based on the existing CIFE iRoom, design a new iRoom for use by a team to build class project (this exercise will be used for Q1).
  • Assume that your physical project includes the following specifications (i.e., Product Functions):
    • Large and small interaction and meeting spaces
    • Project has 4-5 main mass elements, including the main spaces, floor and ceiling and at least one additional mass element;
    • Space has technology to support thermal comfort, lighting, as well as modeling, analysis and interaction
  • Assume similar functions for Organization and Process
• Stations and Deliverables:
• POP model, which you started in the POP lab
• Organization model, e.g., that you draw in PowerPoint, and Process model, represented as a Gantt chart that you draw with your favorite tool
• Product sketch + 3D Building Information Model (BIM)
• Owner: resolve issues; Build presentation of models for group
• Facilitator: seek POP and VDC model consistency and quality
• Budget
• Groups of ~5: different than previous
• 60 minutes for ICE interaction
• 40 minutes for presentations, discussion

ICE-2 in-class assignment:

• Task: Design WTC submission (used for Q2). See examples
• Stations and Deliverables:
• POP model
• Organization (org chart - PPT) and Process models (Gantt chart – your favorite tool)
• Product sketch + 3D model + definition of > 5 model-based analyses that you plan to implement
• Owner: resolve issues; build build presentation to summarize design + analyses given MACDADI summary; project and business recommendation; pre-plan next meeting; tasks for next session
• Facilitator: seek POP and VDC model consistency and quality
• Budget
• Groups of ~5: different than previous
• 10 minutes session planning to define organization and make assignments
• 60 minutes for ICE interaction
• 20 minutes for presentations, discussion

ICE-3 in-class assignment:

• Task: Design a first response to the objectives of your project sponsor for your class project.
• Deliverables for each team: On one slide, possibly referring to images from your POP, BIM and SimVision models, explain a storyline of your work, i.e.,
  • Describe the functional intent of your project;
  • Describe your design response to your functional intent;
  • Describe one or two predicted values of behaviors of your design response;
  • Evaluate the extent to which your design response meets project objectives;
  • Based on your descriptions, prediction and evaluation, propose a scope of work to move your project forward.
• Budget
  • Project team of about 3
  • 10 minutes session planning to define organization and make assignments
  • 60 minutes for ICE interaction
  • 30 minutes for presentations, discussion

ICE-4 in-class assignment:

• Task: Design a second (creative) design response to the objectives of your project sponsor for your class project.
• Stations and Deliverables for each team: see ICE-3
• Budget : Project groups; 70 minutes for ICE interaction; 30 minutes for presentations and discussion

Template for final project presentations:

• Case Example: Simply annotated screen images of baseline Product, Organization, Process models;
• Value Proposition for a business to implement your story on a large scale;
• Your response for an optional question in Query 9;
• Snapshots from analysis tools that show >5 predicted Project Behaviors for the design options you modeled and analyzed, annotated to comment on the believability of each analysis;
• MACDADI graphic description of predicted behaviors and brief comment on the business meaning of the analysis;
• Recommendations for VDC modeling guidelines that identify any challenges your sponsor will encounter in using VDC.

DSS instructions:

• Launch DSS
• Select a model, e.g., Test or Add Model...
• In your selected model,
  • Edit as appropriate
  • Project -> (Show details)
  • Visualizations -> (Show details)
  • Update
  • Download file
  • Your computer will download a file with extension .kmz from the DSS host. Open this file with Google Earth
• In Google Earth, select the small clock (Click to toggle time slider animation)
