Building art
works using the internet as a medium. Examining ways the web has
been conceptualized during its brief history: as a mutable archive, as
a multitude
of communities composed of spatially diffused members, as a channel through
which one may perceive, act, and understand at a distance. Interactive
works
will be created using Dreamweaver and Flash.
This class is primarily a hands on approach to learning , but there WILL
be some
reading. You are expected to read all handouts and be able articulate
what has
been read to the class and in discussion.
Working knowledge
of computer. Basic web skills are preferred, but not required.
There will
be 5 reading assignments.
A 15-20 minute presentation on each reading will be required. A schedule
of
presentations and groups will be decided on. You will only present one
reading
during the class.
Requirements for the presentation:
Each group will make a presentation based on the reading. It will be assumed
that everyone has read the reading, so this is NOT to be a re-read of
the piece.
This is to be an interpretation, expansion or some application of the
reading.
The presentation be 15-20 minutes and will include visuals (slides, power
point,
posters, objects, video etc).
There will
be two projects due. To be disclosed at later date. One small one at
end of flash tutorial. One final project
This
class will be team taught by Amy Franceschini, Josh On, Pam Statz
and Thomas Muer.
