While in El Salvador Celia and I decided to make the few hour drive to Guatemala City to visit her brother Omar. In the three days we were there I searched intently for Chlosyne lacinia. No luck. As we were in the middle of the dry season I was not too suprised. But I did find some aster things that looked very much like the sunflowers and related plants that C. lacinia loves so much as larval host plant.

Most of our time was spent near Guatemala City but we did make a trip to Lake Atitlan and while we were there we walked briefly through part of a lakeside forest. On that walk I chanced upon this cool Ithomiine (Greta oto).

We also hung out by the lake which was quite pretty. I'm the one on the far left, Omar (with his new stylish hat) is on the far right, and Celia is in the middle.
