Chinese-Americans of
the present day are at all different stages of adaptation. Each Chinese-American has
found different
ways to reconcile the two cultures of the United States and traditional
China
concerning identity and family. Chinese-Americans
have adapted certain traditional Anglo-Saxon values into their
lifestyles and
also have found ways to balance out both traditional Anglo-Saxon values
and
traditional Chinese values for certain things.
While Chinese-Americans are adapting to the United
States, one way the
United States has unfortunately adapted to the Chinese-American
minority is
with the minority model myth, which, while giving a good name to
Chinese-Americans, acts as a double-edged sword that actually also
harms
Chinese-Americans. |
