Fundamental Significance:  Power scaling solid state lasers with high spectral and spatial coherence.  In-band pumping of eye safe lasers for high efficiency.  Development of ceramic hosts for low cost, high performance solid state lasers.

Program Interactions:  Education and training of next generation of laser engineers and scientists.  Provide a dialogue for the students with government-industry on the emerging needs.  Interactions with government research labs: ARL, AFRL, NRL, SMDC, LLNL, etc. and industry:  Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon.
