Shaughnessy played well but when a stray ball came onto the court during a point late in the second set,
she seemed to let it slip away. She had just hit a winner and argued the call profusely. Just in time Seles picked it up and closed out the tie breaker after four set points. This match excited the crowd who was not watching Venus destroy Panova. Seles won the tough battle in three sets 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3
